According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there may be a slowdown in the STI epidemic in the United States.

Some of the highest rates of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) in the nation are found in one Pennsylvania community, though. It has maintained this status for a long period.

Philadelphia has the second-highest rate of sexually transmitted diseases in the US, per an annual Innerbody survey. The city did lose its position as the top city from the previous year, which is a minor comfort.

The only other Pennsylvanian city featured in the survey, Pittsburgh, came in at number 26 overall.

After ranking 100 metropolitan regions using information gathered from the CDC, the U.S. Census Bureau, the National Coalition of STD Directors (NCSDCC), and other sources, Innerbody produced this report.

When it was all over, Detroit, Michigan, overtook Philadelphia to claim the top slot. Alabama’s Montgomery came in third.

Overall STI rates in the US actually decreased by 1.8% in 2023 compared to 2022, according to the most recent statistics from the CDC, the paper stated. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s infection rates had been on the rise for almost 20 years.

The report goes on to say that even with the progress, we still have to deal with an epidemic that calls for fresh dedication in order to sustain progress and gain more traction, which is what drives us to develop our yearly research. Although the national STI rate has decreased by over 2 percent, this percentage is still 90% greater than it was in 2004.
