Washington The Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders 5–4 thanks to a goal and assist from Jakob Chychrun in overtime.

The Capitals overcame a 4-2 deficit to win three of five games without captain Alex Ovechkin, thanks to two goals from Tom Wilson and goals from Nic Dowd and Dylan Strome. In the victory, Logan Thompson stopped 20 shots.

For New York, who have now lost three consecutive games, Kyle MacLean scored, Anders Lee had a goal and two helpers, and Simon Holmstrom scored twice. In the defeat, Semyon Varlamov recorded 21 saves.
