On Black Friday, Matthew Wright, a former Pittsburgh Steelerskicker, helped lead the Kansas City Chiefs to victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Following injuries to two different Chiefs kickers, Wright was added to the team’s practice squad before being promoted from it.
He did, however, contribute to the team by sinking four of his five field goal attempts. By achieving this, Wright improved his career kicking % and contributed to the Chiefs’ 11-1 record.
With just under six minutes remaining in the game, Wright gave the Chiefs the lead, 19–17. Dylan Carlson, one of four Raiders kickers, missed the game-winning attempt that would have placed the Raiders ahead.
This is the 26-year-old’s second tenure with the Chiefs; his first was in 2021. He has been a journeyman kicker. Wright, a UCF kicker who was not selected in the draft, has been brought in by the Steelers on several occasions for training camp. Since the Steelers have altered Boswell’s training regimen to ensure his body is in top condition, he assisted kicker Chris Boswell in having a lower workload this summer.
