Starting defensive tackle Dvon J-Thomas of Penn State officially declared for the NFL Draft on Sunday night, despite the fact that he was already ineligible for college.
J-Thomas thanked many people along the way and shared his admiration for the university he attended for six years in a social media post.
First and foremost, I want to thank God and my Penn State family. He is amazing. Next, I want to express my gratitude to my loved ones and family for helping me reach to this point. The author was J. Thomas. Penn State, thank you for everything—the good, the bad, and the ugly. My time at Penn State has molded me into the player and person I am today. I will always cherish the people, lessons, and memories I have made here. I will always cherish my time at Penn State, and I will never forget the contributions this program, school, and community have made to my life.
J-Thomas started all 16 games in 2024 and finished with half a sack, four tackles for loss, and 35 tackles. In 2021, J-Thomas saw his first notable action at Penn State following then-start P.J. Mustipher had an injury that ended his season. By the end of his six years, the McDonogh School (Maryland) product had played 60 games and made 26 starts.
In the class of 2019, J-Thomas was ranked as the 20th best defensive tackle in the nation and a four-star prospect when he arrived to Penn State. He was one of Penn State’s most charismatic players at the end of this season. With teammates, the media, or everyone else he came into contact with, he was an expert in both highs and lows. Because of his character, J-Thomas and center Nick Dawkins had been sometimes referred to as State College’s mayor. He even started going regularly to other Penn State athletic events, such as men’s basketball.
Everyone enjoys the family’s victory. Right now, we’re all winning. Our girls’ volleyball team recently took home the national title. At home, our boys’ squad has an unblemished record. And, thank God, we’re doing well,” J-Thomas remarked during Penn State’s quest for the College Football Playoffs. However, everyone is enjoying themselves and winning. Given how well our sports teams are performing right now, Penn State Athletics should be ecstatic.

Despite having the chance to pursue the NFL Draft the previous season, J-Thomas chose to return to Happy Valley in 2024 with plans to achieve even greater success as a program. That’s exactly what Penn State accomplished, ultimately losing by three points in the Orange Bowl national semifinal. J-Thomas had a significant role in that, and Happy Valley will never forget his presence and character.
James Franklin joked during the Big Ten Championship, and Dvon has been fantastic for the 11 years I’ve known him at Penn State. He has been on my side the whole time.
