The city of PhiladelphiaTwo Canadian Packers supporters held placards close to the tunnel as the team entered the field prior to the start of Sunday’s wild-card game between the Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.

A placard that said, “100% pure love from Canada,” was held by one fan. The second fan’s sign was an allusion to a recent joke about the northern neighbor of the United States that was made by President-elect Donald Trump.

The sign said, “If we get the Packers, the USA can have Canada.” It cited remarks made by Trump regarding his intention to make Canada the 51st state.

Nobody knows why we spend more than $100,000,000 annually subsidizing Canada. Trump shared content on social media. It doesn’t make sense! The goal of many Canadians is for their country to become the 51st state. They would save a great deal of money on military security and taxes. It’s a fantastic idea, in my opinion. He wrote, “51st State!!!” in a Truth Social post.

Justin Trudeau, the prime minister of Canada, did not like Trump’s comments and completely rejected the idea.

Trudeau stated on social media that there is absolutely no possibility that Canada would join the US. Trudeau posted on social media that “being each other’s biggest trading and security partner benefits workers and communities in both our countries.”

The way the game began in the first quarter gave the impression that the Packers fans’ aspirations to join the US would not have much of an impact. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts completed an 11-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jahan Dotson after Packers kick returner Keisean Nixon fumbled the first kickoff.
