In their postseason matchup with the Baltimore Ravens, the Pittsburgh Steelers set a record that they never intended to surpass. The Steelers gave up the most rushing yards in a postseason game in their history on Saturday, with 257 and counting.
They gave up 232 rushing yards to the Oakland Raiders in 1973, setting the previous record. Now that the Steelers are still having trouble keeping Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson in check, the 52-year record has been shattered.
With Jackson gaining 70 yards and Henry gaining 162 rushing yards and two touchdowns, the Ravens are averaging more than seven yards per carry on the day. The Ravens’ offense has been booming all game long because the Steelers knew they needed to stop Jackson and Henry on the ground in order to have a shot. However, they failed to accomplish so.
Although Henry has continued to find opportunities to generate explosive plays, head coach Mike Tomlin made it obvious last week that he was the center of attention after he destroyed the Steelers the second time.
The Ravens are not an exception to the Steelers’ inability to slow down their run against some of the best teams they have faced this season. They have consequently squandered time off the clock and left the Steelers in a terrible situation.
