Trenton Thompson, a former safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, formally announced his retirement. In 2023, Thompson played for the Steelers, replacing Keanu Neal and Minkah Fitzpatrick, who were both injured. Thompson filled in as the primary safety after Damontae Kazee was suspended, but his season was cut short by a neck injury.
That was a nerve problem, and the injury prevented Thompson from having a successful offseason. He tried to get back on the field after returning to OTAs, but he never seemed completely recovered. Shortly after his comeback, the Steelers cut Thompson during OTAs in an attempt to help him find another team, but he was unable to sign anywhere despite multiple tryouts.
Knowing when something is finished is always crucial. Whatever we name it, closing doors, closing circles, or ending chapters, what important is putting those experiences in life in the past. In an Instagram post, Thompson stated that he was retired.
Thompson played for the New York Giants and the Steelers during his playing days. He was signed by Pittsburgh for training camp, and he made enough of an impression to be included in the practice squad.
