The Chargers, who finished a grueling season with an 11-6 overall record and a 6-3 road record, are back in the AFC Playoffs in coach Jim Harbaugh’s first season in Los Angeles. Los Angeles ended the season with three consecutive wins over the Denver Broncos (34-27), New England Patriots (40-7) and Las Vegas Raiders (34-20), moving them up to the No. 5 spot from a precarious postseason berth. In addition, Justin Herbert and the offense recorded their three biggest scoring performances of the season in those three games. Herbert’s 28-of-36 passing performance against the Raiders resulted in 346 yards, two touchdowns, and a passer rating of 125.2.

The Texans had high expectations going into the 24th season following a successful 2023 campaign and significant free agent additions in running back Joe Mixon and wideout Stefon Diggs. Houston returned to the AFC Playoffs for the second consecutive year, but falling short of those expectations largely because of injury problems. Late in the season, the Texans’ defeats to No. 1 seed Kansas City (27-19) and No. 3 Baltimore (31-2) in Weeks 16 and 17, respectively, gave them a clear indication of their position among the AFC’s best teams. Houston defeated the Tennessee Titans 23–14 on the road to end the season on a high note and win the AFC’s weakest division by two games.
