A Philadelphia retail store that is closing will lay off over 100 employees.
In order to notify the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry that 128 employees will be let go from their jobs at 1300 Market St. in Philadelphia, Macy’s submitted a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification.
From March 18 to March 31, there will be layoffs.
The business is located in the historic Wanamaker Building in Center City, Philadelphia. For many years, John Wanamaker’s flagship department store was housed in the structure. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Macy’s has been hosting the well-liked Christmas light show in the Grand Court since opening its 13th and Market location in 2006. The Friends of the Wanamaker Organ website announced Thursday that the Wanamaker Grand Court Organ will continue to perform every day until closing.
The store was one of 66 locations that Macy’s announced closing on Thursday. The Keystone State is home to four of the sites.

According to Macy’s, the first quarter of 2025 is when the majority of the 66 stores are anticipated to close.
The closures are a part of a three-year plan to close 150 outlets, which was disclosed last year.
A federal law known as the WARN Act requires companies to give notice sixty days prior to a covered business closing or a covered business mass layoff, protecting employees, their families, and communities.
