Cam Heyward, a defensive lineman with the Pittsburgh Steelers, was chosen as a first-team selection for the AP All-Pro team this season, making yet another piece of NFL history. The 35-year-old equaled first-team All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II with eight sacks and an incredible 11 passes defended.

But what really makes this season so beautiful is Heyward’s age. As the oldest defensive tackle to be selected to an All-Pro squad during the Super Bowl era, Heyward is 35 years old. Gino Marchetti of the Baltimore Colts, who was 37 at the time, was the last defensive tackle 35 or older to be selected to the All-Pro team in 1964.

This was Heyward’s fourth first-team honor and fifth selection overall. Furthermore, this accolade probably signifies the end of a Hall of Fame career. He received the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2023 and has 88.5 sacks overall in his career. All of that makes up a résumé that deserves to be introduced in Canton.
