Terence Garvin, a former linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been appointed defensive coordinator at Norfolk State. Garvin made the announcement on social media. On that staff, he will work alongside former Steelers quarterback Michael Vick. Three weeks ago, Vick was appointed head coach.

At Miami Gardens’ Florida Memorial, an NAIA institution, Garvin, 34, served as the defensive coordinator. After serving as the linebackers coach when he initially joined that staff in 2022, he will now have the opportunity to go up to the FCS and demonstrate his abilities.

Garvin continued to play in the NFL until 2018. He was a member of the Steelers from 2013 to 2015. He formerly played for the Seattle Seahawks, Miami Dolphins, and San Francisco 49ers. Following that, Garvin attempted, but failed, to return to the NFL by playing in the AAF and XFL in 2019 and 2020.

He recorded 1.5 sacks and 77 tackles during his career. Garvin, a native of Towson, Maryland, will provide the staff with a wide network of contacts to tap into as they work to establish the program under former NFL coaches and players.
