In his first professional start against the Arizona Cardinals, former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Jacoby Windmon created NFL history. In NFL history, he was called for the first hip-drop tackle. Up until now, no one had been called for hits on the field, but several players had received fines for them after the fact.

Due to several injuries in the Carolina Panthers’ linebacker rotation, Windmon is starting. He thus made eight tackles and notched a sack while flying over the field. The Michigan State undrafted free agent has performed admirably, recording 11 total tackles in just four games this season.

The Steelers had Windmon playing primarily off-ball linebacker, but as injuries mounted, he shown some flashes at outside linebacker as a pass rusher. As a result, it may be difficult to predict which position he will ultimately fit in best. He will be able to maintain a 53-man roster for a lot longer once he finds a position where he can thrive.

His game flourished against the Cardinals as a versatile chess piece all across the field because the Panthers had him doing some of both.
