LANDOVER, MDEagles Quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion and was unable to play in Sunday’s game against the Washington Commanders.

Early in the first quarter, linebacker Frankie Luvu struck Hurts in the helmet as his head rebounded off the ground after one run. Kenny Pickett took Hurts’ place at quarterback after Hurts went to the blue medical tent on the visiting sideline.

Hurts was led back to the tent and then down the tunnel to the locker room at Northwest Stadium when he attempted to rejoin the game while wearing his helmet.

Before the end of the first quarter, the Eagles were ahead 21–7 thanks to a touchdown pass from Pickett to A.J. Brown, an interception, and two touchdown runs from Saquon Barkley.

The Eagles, who are 12-2 and have already secured a postseason berth, lead 21-14 at the half.

Before leaving, Hurts rushed for 41 yards and completed 1 of 4 passes for 11 yards. He had guided the squad to a 10-game winning streak that set a franchise record.

Hurts ran a quarterback pull up the middle for a 13-yard gain with 9:55 left in the first quarter, when the Eagles were facing a second-and-20 at the Commanders 34-yard line. Luvu struck Hurts in the head region when he was being tackled. Hurts first joined the Eagles huddle, but in the blue medical tent, the league’s independent neurologist requested additional testing.

Hurts appeared prepared to return to the game after being examined, but he was not cleared. He took his helmet and headed to the sidelines. Trainers stopped him several times when he tried to get back on the field, and he eventually jogged to the locker room before being disqualified for the remainder of the match.

The Eagles led 14-0 after backup Kenny Pickett came on and looked good, completing all three of his throws for 20 yards, including a 4-yard score to wide receiver A.J. Brown.

Luvu intercepted Pickett’s ball for Brown on the Eagles’ subsequent possession. The Eagles were trailing 14–7 when Jayden Daniels converted it into a 6-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jamison Crowder.

Saquon Barkley’s 68-yard touchdown run put the Eagles ahead 21–7, but Terry McLaurin’s touchdown pass at halftime trimmed the margin to 21–14.
