New information regarding a shooting that occurred inside the new federal courthouse in Harrisburg on Monday morning was made public by the U.S. Marshals Service.
According to earlier reports from various sources, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers shot an armed guy, as reported by PennLive. In a news release issued late in the afternoon, the Marshals Service acknowledged that the individual had been shot several times by their personnel.
After being transported to a Harrisburg hospital, the injured man’s condition remained stable, according to the Marshals Service. His name was not disclosed.
According to the news release, the individual brought a knife into the courthouse and tried to use it against the security checkpoint guards. According to the press release, the individual made an attempt to assault an officer.
The courthouse is one of the safest buildings in downtown Harrisburg, so officials say it was poorly planned if it was meant to be an attack.
The news announcement stated that no bystanders or law enforcement personnel were injured.
The courthouse was closed Monday in order to gather evidence for the FBI’s investigation into the incident. Deputy U.S. Marshal Bobby Lenahan said the courthouse should be open Tuesday during regular business hours.
