Throughout the 13 games, STATE COLLEGESMU’s defense has been a pillar of support.
On Saturday at Beaver Stadium, however, the 11-2 Mustangs—who are rated fourth in the FBS in terms of the fewest rushing yards allowed per game (93.4)—will be put to the test in their most significant game to date.
Power runners in the backfield, an All-American tight end with blocking ability (Tyler Warren), and offensive linemen have made Penn State’s srun game look formidable in recent weeks.
In PSU’s 45-37 loss to the Ducks on December 7, the 11-2 Lions broke through the defense of undefeated Oregon for 292 yards and two scores. Nick Singleton affirmed on Tuesday that he feels as good as he appeared in that game.
When questioned about his Oregon performance, Singleton responded, “I found some big holes, shout out to the O-line, tight ends for doing that.”
To set the tone, I think I got physical. We expected it would be a rough game because of Oregon’s excellent defense and D-line. I thought my running was excellent. We need to continue it.
Singleton snagged a 22-yard touchdown pass from Drew Allar and ran for 105 yards on just 10 carries. With 124 yards and a touchdown on just 14 tries, his backfield partner, Kaytron Allen, led PSU in running.
On October 5, Singleton was forced to miss the Lions’ 27-11 victory over UCLA due to an unreported minor injury.
The third-year back didn’t look his best when he returned against USC.
When Singleton is on his game, he has a special combination of remarkable power and breakaway speed.
Heisright. Take a look at the numbers:
In his first four games, Singleton recorded 59 rushes and receptions, 482 total yards (8.2 per touch), and four touchdowns against West Virginia, Bowling Green, Kent State, and Illinois.
Singleton has recorded 58 rushes and receptions, 412 total yards (7.1 per touch), and three touchdowns in his last four games (against Purdue, Minnesota, Maryland, and Oregon).
When questioned about rehabilitating his way back to excellent health, Singleton responded, “I feel good.”
I’ve been in the training room every day; you should give it a shout-out. They have contributed to my success in returning. In addition to my coaches, my teammates are always there for me, encouraging me, and checking in on me.
I’m doing well right now; I’m just attempting to maintain my health for the remainder of the season.
