It is anticipated that Drew Allaris will return to Penn State for the 2025 campaign.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported Monday morning that Allar, the starting quarterback for Penn State, has told James Franklin and the coaching staff that he plans to return for his senior year in 2025.
Allar posted a message on social media shortly after Thamel’s story.
Playing football this season has been the most enjoyable experience of my life, and I’m really pleased of our collective accomplishments, Allar wrote. I’m excited to create more memories with my colleagues this year and in the future since I know there’s still more work to be done. But for the time being, we are only thinking about the team opportunity that lies ahead of us.

Allar’s choice is hardly shocking. Inside the Lasch Building, it has been tracking in this direction for some time. Beau Pribula’s departure also makes sense.
Shortly after Pribula, Penn State’s backup quarterback, declared that he would use the transfer portal, Allar’s comeback was announced. Pribula won’t be playing for Penn State in their College Football Playoff run, which begins against SMU on Saturday.
Over the past two seasons, Allar has a 21-5 record as Penn State’s starting quarterback. Under first-year coach Andy Kotelnicki, the former five-star recruit has emerged as one of the nation’s top passers this season. Importantly, Kotelnicki, who was considered for head coaching positions, including the West Virginia position, will return as Penn State’s play-caller.
Under the guidance of Kotelnicki and quarterbacks coach Danny O. Brien, Allar has flourished. He has thrown for seven interceptions, 21 touchdowns, and 2,894 yards. The underlying figures, however, are considerably more striking. Allar is ninth in the FBS with an average of 8.9 yards per attempt. Allar’s yards per attempt (6.8) placed 77th the previous season.
Allar has the option to go for the NFL draft given his leap in play. He may have been considered for the first selection, and the 2025 quarterback class is far from stacked. However, as a third-year starter, Allar still has ability to improve even without Tyler Warren to throw to.
