BEVERLY HILLS, CA (AP) — The Los Angeles Times was informed by Jamie Foxx’s representative that the actor needed sutures after he was struck in the face with a glass while celebrating his birthday at a restaurant in Beverly Hills, California.

The cause of Friday night’s event at Mr. Chow, a popular hangout for celebrities, was not immediately apparent.

In a statement to the newspaper, the actor’s representative said that a glass thrown by someone from another table struck him in the mouth. He is recuperating after requiring stitches. The issue is now in the hands of law enforcement after the police were summoned.

According to the Beverly Hills Police Department, it responded to a reported assault with a dangerous weapon at approximately 10 p.m. on Friday and found it to be unsubstantiated.

According to a department statement, the incident actually entailed a physical altercation between the parties. The BHPD generated a report detailing the battery and carried out an initial inquiry. There were no arrests.

On Sunday, a phone message asking for information was left at Mr. Chow.

Foxx expressed gratitude to everyone who checked in on him on Instagram on Sunday morning.

He wrote, “The devil is busy, but I’m too blessed to be stressed,” seemingly alluding to the Mr. Chow event.

Foxx, who played Ray Charles in the 2004 film Ray and earned an Academy Award, celebrated his 57th birthday on Friday.
