Harold John Jessen
     Harold John Jessen was born September 26, 1915 to Peter and Annie Jessen of Anaconda, Montana. He spent much of his childhood helping out on the family chicken ranch and delivering eggs for which he received the payment of a candy bar from his father for his assistance. Other experiences in Harold’s childhood included activities for survival in an era with no running water, electricity, or refrigerators.

Quick action by two youths averts wildfire

     Two Jefferson High seniors acted quickly Thursday, helping to prevent the spread of what could easily have been a disastrous wildfire.
     Trace Fowler, 18, and Ian Burgan, 17, were at Fowler’s home when the skies darkened and thunder began to rumble. Fowler said the two of them decided to go up the hill a bit to watch the storm pass, something they have done before.

Inquest finds no fault with shooting by deputy

      No criminal charges should be filed against a Jefferson County sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed a Boulder man in January, a coroner’s jury said June 10.
     Deputy David Kosola did not act criminally when he fatally wounded 31-year-old Francis Michael Stately, known to family and friends as Saul Stately, found the nine-person jury.

Boulder Monitor honored as best weekly newspaper in Montana

     The Boulder Monitor received the top honor for a Montana weekly or small daily newspaper at the Montana Newspaper Association’s 123rd Annual Convention in Billings Saturday, June 14.

The Boulder Monitor
Founded in 1907 after combining two predecessors, the Monitor has served Jefferson County for nearly a century. Current publisher, the Jefferson County Courier owned by David and Jan Anderson, bought the Monitor in March 2002.
The Jefferson County Courier
Founded in April 1997, the Courier was awarded the prestigious Thomas Dimsdale Sweepstakes Award for work published in 2000 and the National Newspaper Association Freedom of Information Award in 2004.

Published each Wednesday, the papers are distributed by mail to subscribers at a cost of $24 per year to Jefferson County addresses, $26 for addresses elsewhere in Montana, and $30 for U. S. addresses outside Montana. Send your payment and mailing address to: Boulder Monitor, PO Box 66, Boulder, MT, 59632. State which paper you desire, the Monitor or the Courier.
